Animals In Our Nature - The Farm

We started the activity by reading a funny story about Hattie the Hen. Children really enjoyed it and spent the whole day mimicking the movements of the animals in the story. We later talked about what each animal likes to eat, how does it move, what kind of skin it has and where it lives.

Reading a storybook "Hattie and The Fox"

We also used the internet and showed children the animal housings and talked about the difference between them, why are some smaller then the others and why are some made of wooden parts and why are some are made out of brick.

Teachers and children engaged into making their own little farm by using cardboard, hay, sticks and branches. Children took animal figurines that we have in our room and started putting animals in their houses. We then talked about what animals live on the farm and which don't. One boy decided to put wolf on the farm because he said that the wolves like to eat sheep and he has to be there.

We also made a game using flashcards where children could match pairs with pictures of farm animals, their footprints and distinctive features each animal has. We also added fox that played a big role in the story "Hattie and The Fox".
