HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

With spring having arrived with warmer days our children were invited to celebrate it - the arrival of more active sport season by participating in Springy activities.
All the groups gathered in sport field to warm up with music and prepare our bodies for the activities. After warm-up each group started its way through four different activities.

Game "Viruss". One kid was chosen as the leader (Virus). The Spring virus wanted to catch children; children had to run away from it. If the virus managed to catch somebody, s/he had to ho to the hospital (at the side of the playground)  and take a medicine (eat a slice of carrot). Three children being catched, another "Virus" was chosen.

"Little spring rain". All the children cought hold of the coulourful "umbrella" (colourful parachute). They rotated with it resembling the sun, but when the teacher called out "Rain!", children had to hide themselves under the colourful umbrella.
When the rain and sun shines simultaneously, a "Rainbow" can be seen. Children were divided into two teams, they took the gymnastic wand with the colourful ribbon, run around the cone and gave the wand to the next runner. They had to be very quick to glow and please everybody.

In "Sporty art" stage some children pretended to be sportsman and showed some sporty posture, the others tried to depict them looking through the drawing frame and trying to draw them.

One of the most significant tasks (if living on the countryside) in spring is to plant garden, including potatoes. In the last stage ("Potatoe planting") children were asked to practice in potatoe planting. They were divided in two teams. After a start signal the first child took a ball (potatoe) and carried it to the "field". The next runner had to put his/her feet after the last potatoe and place his/her potatoe at his/her toe. The race continued while all potatoes were planted. Children were encouraged to make their potatoe furrows as stright as possible.

At the end children had a little dancing in sport field while all the teams returned from tasks. Children were praised for doing really good at sport and got little presents so that they can continue spending actively their time in playgrounds, practicing various skills and spending time healthy in open air.

The following are some pictures form sport activities in different seasons.

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Olympic day 2022 in preschool

Keeping our fingers crossed and supporting our Latvian olympicians at Beijing Olympics, on February 1 our preschool children gathered at our kindergarten's sports field to strengthen their health, physical endurance and to participate in our own Olympic games.

Like in real olympic games, group delegations entered the stadium holding a plate with group name.

From each groups a representative was elected to carry the Olympic flag around the stadium up to the flagpole while marching music was played. Then the Olympic anthem was played and the flag was raised.

Now it was the time to bring in the Olympic torch. Again child of each group brought it around our sports field.  To greet the olympicians and to wish them success in the Olympics, the coordinator of Olympic games from China herself came to visit our event (the translation was provided by our speech therapist)  :)))

The main judges of each discipline invited children to try their skills in:
Wolf - bobsleigh. Children had to slide from the hill with a ball in their hand and try to hit it in the target.

dog Piff  invited to sledging activity. One kid pulled the sledge, the other pushed it, while the third was sitting in holding a rubber ring. They had to go along cones and at the end of the road put the rubber ring on a stick and "drive" back.

Bear provided biathlon. Children were divided into teams of 6. Each child took two balls. After start signal they ran around the stadium, run into "shooting range" and only when all the children of their team had run in, they could throw balls, trying to hit the pins.

Piglet told children to find the way out of snow maze. At the end of the maze they had to crawl under the ribbons and run to the start along the snow path. They had to make three laps each.

the coordinator from China invited to try hockey and longslide.

Everything was documented by Eurosport photographer Zebra.

After active participation all participants and judges received olympic stickers.

 Health and well-being

Autumn in our country is a rich season – rich with fruits and vegetables. One cannot skip talking about the importance of these, especially when we all try to be healthy and strong. Even our folksongs speak about wealth of the autumn. So, it is the right time to take up vitamins for the whole winter. So did our two groups.

First of all our Owlet group made a little exhibition in the group to see what “garden gifts” have grown in their gardens, compare them, get introduced with unfamiliar ones.

Later from these “gifts” tasty salads and healthy juice were made.

In another day children talked over how can vegetables be preserved for winter. They learned that if you prepare apples you can eat delicious compote in winter when there are no apples in the yard any more. They studied a recipe, prepared and measured the ingredients. Compote is ready to be stored in basement to wait for cold a cold winter day!

Sunflower group also took advantage of the wealthy season and prepared vitamin-abundant salads from the goods of the garden. Practicing to work with knife and, after everything is ready, to tidy up after themselves. Finally - to taste what has come out of it.

Let's be healthy and stay strong!

 HEALTH AND WELL BEING

Preschool groups of Jumprava primary school a time ago started planting diverse plants to get first spring vitamins or to study how plants grow, their parts and see what comes out of them and how do they look. Here is what came out of it. Children themselves keep an eye on their plants, take care of them and water them. Scallions and dill they usually add to the dinner soup. Sprouted seeds are eaten as snacks.

 HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

If the weather and other conditions permit, we practice sport activities outside in open air. It is much fun for children in winter as well as in spring, summer, autumn. Because each season offers different ways to enjoy it.

HEALTHY OATMEAL COOKIE

Children age: 6-7 years

Child learns to measure and weigh ingredients. Child learns to read the recipe and act according to it. Child learns to mix the dough and form the cookies. Child knows that hot oven is dangerous - safety requirements and safety. Child learns how useful are oatmeal cookies for our health.

The teacher explains that one of the healthiest grain - oats - contains vitamins, minerals, proteins, lowers blood sugar and improves blood oxygenation.

When you eat oatmeal cereals you get healthier skin, because it contains lots of fibers and vitamins. They are also good against inflammatory skin diseases. Oat contains zinc, which helps get rid of toxins and rejuvenates the skin. Oatmeal helps to lower blood sugar and reduce overeating and the consumption of fatty foods. Oatmeal porridge is a good food, but low in calories and fat. You can experiment with oat in different ways.

The teacher explains that today we are making oatmeal cookies because they are so healthy.

At first they read the recipe and find out what ingredients they need. They examine and say the names of ingredients. They observe the means to make the dough. They examine and they the names of the instruments.

Then they get acquainted with the weights and scales with weights (they used very old weighing instrument). They explored how to measure with the scale, how to read the amount. Then they measured flour, sugar, oatmeal cereals and other ingredients.

They mix the dough. All children can participate in the activity. The most excitement they get from the using the mixer.

The children tried to eat all the dried cranberries because they liked them so much. But the teachers were able to save them for the cookies. Even some for cookies decoration.

With the help of two spoons, the children formed nice cookies in a row on the oven plate. We put the cookies in the oven and the children waited with great interest for them.

The smell of the cookies was overwhelming and children just wanted to eat right away. But they waited a little because the cookies were very hot.

And they tasted very good - Self made, very well done!
