COLLECTING INFORMATION ABOUT HERBS AND THEIR USEFULNESS – RESEARCH AND PRESENTATION

Εvery child took a sealed envelope with puzzle pieces to take at home. Each puzzle, was about a different plant of the botanical garden. The children had to make the puzzle in order to find out the plant the puzzle was about. Then, they had to search for information about the specific plant with the help of their parents and prepare a small presentation either in PowerPoint or οn a piece of paper.

After that, children holding their solved puzzles went to the botanical garden and tried to recognize the plant and show it to their classmates.

Some children, in pairs, went out with a worksheet.

Each couple had a mission:                                                                                                                      “Observe the worksheet and note the trees or herbs  you will find in the Botanical Garden”

A poster about the usefulness of herbs regarding our health

Children observed different types of posters and learnt about the features and the kinds of posters (informative poster, poster for an event, poster for awareness etc).

The next day, they made a poster about the usefulness of herbs in our health. They took information from the presentations the children made about every plant of the garden and from a small booklet the teacher prepared for each herbal plant of the garden.

A map for our botanical garden

Children observed different types of maps and learnt about the characteristics a map should have.

After that, we visited once again our botanical garden in order to mark the position of every plant in the garden and take some more photos. Then, children created a map of our garden with the help of their notes and the pictures taken.

At the bottom of the map they create a memo with the names of the plants.

Directions with Bee-Bot

After we learned to recognize herbs and trees, the Bee-Bot came to joined our company.

With it we learn various things such as working together, giving instructions, understanding the concepts back and forth, right and left, reading simple symbols, blueprints and maps and also recording movements and routes.

A child was choosing a herb and his couple  had to find the way and planning the Bee-Bot getting there.
